Become an Early Riser (Long Term Goal - Part 3)

Updated: Feb 10, 2021

It is now day 21 of my 66 day; becoming an early rise challenge. And in all honesty, I feel pretty, god damn, great. The past few days have been a breeze, getting up in the morning. In fact, the past 2 morning I even woke up just before 6 o'clock, naturally. Plus, I'm no longer feeling that midday crash that I was experienced at the start of this challenge, which also feels

amazing. One thing that I am absolutely

loving about waking up so early in the morning is that I tend to get so much done before it's even 9:00am. You see, I'm a Videographer for a children's sports and events company and I make all their online marketing videos, and on Fridays I work from home. On the days that I don't work from home, I tend to have plenty of time to wake up slowly, read for as long as I desire, cuddle in bed with Georgia, have my oats for breakfast, even sneak in some YouTube videos whilst I eat. I even have time to cuddle and give the bunny boys some attention, as well as, get changed, pack my bag for work, and I'll even through in a podcast. By 8:00 when I'm heading to work I would have already done so much. However, on Fridays when I get to work from home, I get an extra hour in that would usually be spent on travelling to work. This means, that on my days working from home I do all the above, and then an added hour of writing my next blog post (this one) and even do some dishes, and a load of laundry. By the time my clock hits 9:00 I would have completed all the above and sit at my desk ready to start my Videography work.

Something that has been really useful in helping me wake up feeling refreshed is that, I feel as though my body is beginning to adjust to my new schedule, and so, instead of having my midday crashes, I now tend to crash around 9:30 or 10:00 which means that I tend to go to bed earlier, which also means that I just naturally wake up earlier also. Now, this

may sound very straight forward and rather common sense-ish, but, I have never been a go to bed early type of person, like ever, I am the type of person to love the night time. When I was younger I used to play video games well into 1:00am or I'd lay in bed on my phone making my way through all the YouTube videos in my watch later playlist. Now that I'm older however, I have started realising that, actually, nothing productive ever comes out of me past 6 or 7 pm, therefore, it's around this time that I give into my desires and watch some horror movies with Georgia, or read another few pages of a book I am currently reading, or allow myself an hour or two of video games, or free time web browsing just for fun. In other words, I relax and unwind and allow for my 10:00pm crash to hit, rather than spending all day and all night defeating dragons on Skyrim, like I used to do. It's always, always, about the balance. Therefore, if I was to give one piece of advice for someone who is trying to wake up early, as am I, then I would suggest going to bed early too.

"Getting in balance is not so much about adopting new strategies to change your behaviors, as it is about realigning yourself in all of your thoughts so as to create a balance between what you desire and how you conduct your life on a daily basis." - Wayne Dyer, Being in Balance.
